Telematics & live tracking

Live vehicle positions, trip history, driving behaviour, EV battery monitoring, crash detection, speed compliance and devices.

Telematics features use tracking hardware installed in your fleet vehicles. They cover live tracking, trip history, driving behaviour, EV battery monitoring, crash detection and speed compliance. Everything is under Telematics in the sidebar.

Live tracking

Telematics → Live Tracking shows a map of every vehicle with a paired telematics device. Vehicles move on the map as new positions arrive.

FeatureWhat it does
Live mapShows each vehicle's position and heading. A vehicle with the ignition on is shown in green; one with the ignition off is grey.
Vehicle listLists your tracked vehicles with their current speed, or Idle or Off. Search by vehicle or filter by pool, and select a vehicle to centre the map on it.
Vehicle detailsSelect a vehicle to see its speed, ignition, last event, driver and how the driver was identified.
GeofencesYour active geofences are drawn on the map, so you can see which zones vehicles are in or near.
Auto refreshPositions refresh automatically every 10 seconds. You don't need to reload the page.

Trip history

Telematics → Trips lists every trip detected from ignition on and off events and GPS data.

FeatureWhat it does
Trip listEach trip's start time, vehicle, driver, distance, duration and maximum speed.
RouteOpen a trip to see the route it took on the map, matched to the road. The route is coloured by speed against the speed limit.
Trip detailsDistance, duration, maximum and average speed.
Speed complianceThe trip's speed compliance, its largest overspeed and how long the vehicle was over the limit.

Telematics → Event History shows a timeline of a vehicle's telematics events, with route playback.

Driving behaviour

Vectis analyses driving to give each driver a safety score. It encourages safe driving and helps you see where training is needed.

FeatureWhat it does
Driver scoreA score out of 100. Each driving event takes points off. Higher is better.
Event breakdownHarsh acceleration, braking and cornering, and speeding, across the fleet.
Driver rankingsDrivers ranked by safety score.
Driver scorecardOne driver's score over time and the events behind it.

EV battery monitoring

Telematics → EV Battery shows your electric vehicles' battery levels and charging.

FeatureWhat it does
Battery dashboardYour EVs, how many are charging, how many have a low battery, and the average battery level.
Charging sessionsPast charging sessions, including the energy used.

Crash detection

Telematics devices detect high-impact events that may be a crash, and record the time, location and severity of the impact. Telematics → Crash Detection lists them.

Speed compliance

Vectis compares vehicle speed with the road's speed limit to find speeding. Routes are matched to the road and given speed limit data.

FeatureWhat it does
Speed-coloured routesA trip's route is green within the limit, amber when slightly over and red when well over.
Overspeed alertsAlerts when a vehicle is speeding. Turn them on and choose the minimum severity in Settings → Organisation → Overspeed Alerts.
Speed compliance pageTelematics → Speed Compliance shows fleet-wide compliance, a daily trend, compliance by pool, driver and vehicle, and the most frequent overspeed locations.

Geofences

Geofences are boundaries you draw on the map. Vectis alerts you when vehicles enter or leave them. See Setting up geofences.

Devices

Telematics → Devices lists the telematics devices in your fleet. You need permission to manage telematics, which System Administrator has.

FeatureWhat it does
Device listEvery device with its IMEI, model, status and vehicle. Search, and filter by status or by whether it is paired to a vehicle.
Device detailsOne device's model, firmware, serial number, status, vehicle and when it was last seen.
StatusRegistered, Online, Offline or Inactive.
